Richmond Rotary joined the Rotary Clubs of Kurrajong North Richmond and Windsor to support the installation of a new Early Flood Warning Detection System across the Hawkesbury. Developed following the devastating floods of 2020–2022, the project installed nine smart flood-warning signs to provide motorists with early alerts when water begins rising across flood-prone roads.

Sensors installed in nearby creeks automatically activate the solar-powered warning signs when water reaches specified levels, while simultaneously alerting Hawkesbury City Council staff so barriers can be installed when required. The signs have been installed at locations including Vineyard, Tennyson, East Kurrajong and Blaxlands Ridge.

The project was supported through grants from The Rotary Foundation of Australia and the Bendigo Bank Community Enterprise Foundation and delivered in partnership with Hawkesbury City Council. It is a great example of local Rotary clubs working together to provide practical solutions that help make the Hawkesbury community safer and better prepared for future floods.
