Clubhouses

Clubhouses are community-based centres providing support and opportunities for individuals with mental health challenges. These centres operate on the Clubhouse Model, emphasising member participation, meaningful work, and social inclusion. The Clubhouse Model aims to promote recovery, reduce social isolation, and support individuals in achieving their personal goals. Critical features of Clubhouses include:
-
Membership: Individuals who attend Clubhouses are referred to as "members" rather than "patients" or "clients," promoting a sense of belonging and ownership.
-
Voluntary Participation: Participation in Clubhouses is voluntary, and members are encouraged to engage in activities and work at their own pace.
-
Work-Ordered Day: Clubhouses offer a structured "work-ordered day" where members and staff collaborate on various tasks and projects, fostering a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
-
Supported Employment: Clubhouses aid and support in finding and maintaining meaningful employment.
-
Social and Recreational Activities: Clubhouses provide a range of social and recreational activities designed to foster friendships and connections.
-
Advocacy and Empowerment: Clubhouses advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with mental health challenges, promoting self-advocacy and empowerment.
