Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns

Meeting Room Business

Advocacy and awareness campaigns in the mental health lived experience movement are initiatives and efforts aimed at promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and advocating for improved mental health support and resources. These campaigns are often driven by individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges, who use their personal stories to educate the public, influence policies, and improve mental health services.

Bell Let's Talk

The Bell Let's Talk is a Canadian national mental health awareness and anti-stigma campaign launched by Bell Canada that aims to increase public conversation about mental health and fund mental health initiatives across the country. It uses large-scale media, social engagement, and a dedicated annual campaign day to encourage people to “talk” about mental health, with Bell contributing funding based on public participation—making it one of the most visible and widely recognised mental health awareness campaigns globally.

The Lived Experience Hub maps 30 advocacy and awareness campaigns globally, highlighting a growing ecosystem of initiatives shaping how mental health is understood and discussed. Mapping these campaigns is critical, as it provides organisations with a clear reference point when designing new initiatives—allowing them to build on existing work rather than duplicate it. At a global scale, this mapping reveals what is possible at a local level, accelerating innovation, strengthening alignment, and preventing the re-invention of the wheel by connecting efforts into a more coherent and informed movement.
